The Garnethill Synagogue, Glasgow, Scotland, a splendid example of Victorian synagogue architecture, was built in the period of 1879-81. It was designed by John McLeod of Dumbarton, in conjunction with London based architect Nathan Solomon Joseph of the United Synagogue. It is a Grade-I listed building. It is also the home of the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre.
As well as the typical Order of Service used on these occasions, including Mincha (the afternoon prayers), this booklet lists past Office Holders, Wardens and the Synagogue Office Bearers as they were in 1978-79.
The Rabbi at the time was Casablanca-born, Rabbi Leon Benarroch, who came to Britain aged 15 and studied at Gateshead and Sunderland yeshivos, where he obtained semicha (his rabbinical diploma). He was Rabbi at Garnethill from 1974 to 1982, when he went to Bournemouth, and eventually on to Hendon.
