This is a relatively modern item, but it is a useful picture of the Irish Jewish community as it was in 1985, when Rabbi David Rosen was finishing a short term as the Chief Rabbi of Ireland and Editor of the Year Book (He is one of the sons of the late Rabbi Kopul Rosen and is currently the American Jewish Committee’s International Director of Interreligious Affairs).
The Adelaide Road Synagogue in Dublin, which I visited as a teenager many years ago, was thriving in 1985 under Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis.
The Irish community may be small, but it is significant. There are a number of items of Irish interest in my collection – just click here for a list.
