Jewish Branch of the Children’s Country Holidays Fund, Report, 1906 (London 1907).

ChildrensCHF01This is another of the Annual reports of the Jewish Branch of the Children’s Country Holiday Fund.  I have previously written about my copy of the report for 1909.

The President of this Charity in 1906 was Ernest Louis Franklin.  For more information about the Franklin family, click here.  The committee includes the wives of several well-to-do members of the Jewish community, including Mrs. Herbert Bentwich.  For more information about the Bentwich family, click here.

The purpose of the Charity was to provide Country Holidays for poor children – to get children brought up in the city out to the countryside for some recreation and fresh air.  Kosher food was provided.  In 1906 no less than 2,795 children were treated to two weeks holiday in the countryside.  The children came from schools mainly in the East End of London, including the Jews Free School, the Spanish and Portuguese School, Stepney Jewish School, and schools in Rutland St., Berner St., Chicksand St., etc.  There is a list on the last page.
