PAI Views, Magazine of Poale Agudat Israel European Central Office, London, issues 46, 47, 48, 1976-77.

These magazines are 50 years old, and I have three copies. They were published in London by Poale Agudat Israel in Great Britain, from the PAI European Central Office, 2a Alba Gardens, London N. W. 11.

Poalei Agudat Yisrael is the lost Israeli Political party.  It was originally an ultra-Orthodox workers party established in Poland in 1922, which espoused “socialism with Torah.” Although it opposed class warfare, the party asserted that justice should be demanded in labor relations because the Torah never sided with those who exploit others. During the British Mandatory period, as one of the forces operating to promote the establishment of a Jewish state, Poalei Agudat Yisrael supported immigration and settlement and established Kibbutz Chafetz Chaim. Members of Poalei Agudat Yisrael also joined the Haganah. In some Israeli elections it ran independently, and in others as part of the Religious Torah list with Agudat Yisrael (I admit to voting for PAI in the late 1970s).

The magazines, printed by the Narod Press in Whitechapel, demonstrate support for PAI in the orthodox Anglo-Jewish community, especially from the Chief Rabbi, Dr. Immanuel Jakobovits. There is also strong support for the Ezra youth movement, which has survived the apparent death of its parent and is still functioning in the UK today.
