Mishnas Yaavetz by Rabbi Yaakov Benzion Mendelsohn, 1913

This is a book of findings and rulings on Masseches Chagigah of the Babylonian Talmud, written by Rabbi Yaakov Ben Zion Mendelsohn, and printed in Leeds, England in 1913.  For Rabbi Mendelsohn’s previous book, Midrash Yaavetz, printed in 1911, please click here.  Rabbi Mendelsohn was born in Kreitzburg, in the Vitebsk district of Russia and emigrated to England.  In 1897 he was appointed Rabbi of a synagogue in Leeds, then in Gateshead in 1905 and then in Glasgow, Scotland.  He emigrated to the united States in 1915.

At the end of the book is an important prenumeranten list – a subscription list to finance the printing of the book.  It includes a long list of names of Jews living in Glasgow, as well as Belfast, Bristol, Leeds, and Waterford, Limerick and Cork in Ireland.
