Prayer for the Success of the Four-Power Conference – 1955

4 power 1This curious item is a printed prayer, printed in London and circulated by the Office of the Chief Rabbi, for the success of the Four-Power Conference at Geneva. it was to be read in synagogues after the prayer for the Queen and the Royal Family.

The Four-Power Conference was a Cold War-era meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. Held on July 18, 1955, it was a meeting of “The Big Four”: President Dwight D. Eisenhower of the United States, Prime Minister Anthony Eden of Britain, Premier Nikolai A. Bulganin of the Soviet Union, and Prime Minister Edgar Faure of France.

The conference was held to reduce international tensions, to include trade talks and to be a step towards ending the “Cold War”.  Apparently, it was deemed important enough for this little leaflet to be printed.
